Why are we needed?

Nearly one million of the state's people are hungry. More than half of them are children and the elderly.

Single parents and their children, the working poor, the disabled, and welfare or social security recipients run out of resources before the month's end. Victims of fire, unemployment, and medical emergencies are often stretched beyond their means. There's also the homeless who lack the ability to care or provide for themselves.

Who do we serve?

The Community FoodBank is a nonprofit organization that distributes food and grocery items to the many places where needy people seek help.

Over 300 nonprofit groups serving the poor and hungry throughout Atlantic, Cape May, Cumberland and parts of Burlington Counties benefit from our service.

Our priorities are soup kitchens, emergency food pantries, homeless shelters, and abused women's shelters. We also distribute to other nonprofit charities providing food to those in need including day care centers, senior citizens programs, group homes for the disabled and rehab facilities.

Through the Community FoodBank of NJ industry and individuals can help the hungry.

How does it work?

Food drives
Year round food drives are essential
to our success

We receive large scale donations - from a few cases to trailer loads of products - from over 250 corporations in New Jersey and across the country through our affiliation with Second Harvest, the National food bank network. We also receive food from caring individuals and groups who coordinate food drives on our behalf:

The Southern Branch operates from a 27,000 square foot warehouse with over 17,000 cubic feet of freezer and cooler capacity; conveniently located on the Black Horse Pike in Egg Harbor Township near the Shore Mall.

All FoodBank products are free to those in need. Our member organizations share the expense of shipping and handling by contributing 18 cents per pound for food and 21 cents per pound for cleaning supplies and personal care items. This covers less than 50% of our operating budget. We obtain the balance from charitable donations made by caring individuals, foundations, civic groups and local industries. We are also a member of the United Way in Atlantic, Cape May and Cumberland Counties.
